Horse Racing Fair Deal Rules

  1. Bets are accepted for horse race meetings held under the rules of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) and etc. and are settled on the official result.
  2. All bets are placed in accordance with Sporting Star fair deal rules and all odds are subject to fluctuation and bets placed will be settled at the starting price (SP) unless price is taken ( price guide prices does not count) at the time the bet was struck (not applicable for races that offer Pari-Mutual dividends) .
  3. Early prices are compiled by a third party and are offered daily on selected races up to the first transmission of show prices from the racecourse. If the selected horse is withdrawn from the race before coming under starter’s orders, bets placed on that horse at early prices will be void. If the selected horse is withdrawn from a race after coming under starter’s orders, bets placed on that horse at early prices will have lost as the horse will be judged to have been a participant in the race. If any other horse is withdrawn from the race before coming under starter’s orders, bets placed at early prices may be subject to a Rule 4 deduction. (not applicable for races that offer Pari-Mutual dividends)
  4. The SP, or starting price is the price declared on each horse once a race has come under starter’s orders. This is the price declared for each horse in the official race result. Bets placed on UK and Irish horse racing or any other country will be settled at SP unless an early price or ante post price is taken or unless the bet is placed at Pari-Mutuel odds race. If the selected horse is withdrawn from the race before coming under starter’s orders, bets placed on that horse at SP will be void. If the selected horse is withdrawn from a race after coming under starter’s orders, bets placed on that horse at SP will have lost as the horse will be deemed to have been a participant in the race.
  5. If a horse is withdrawn after the final declaration stage and before coming under starter’s orders, or is officially deemed by the starter to have taken no part in the race, stakes will be returned on the withdrawn horse and winning bets will be subject to deductions in accordance with Tattersall’s Rule 4. (not applicable for races that offer Pari-Mutual dividends)

If a horse is withdrawn and a new market is formed, all bets placed at show prices prior to the new market will be subject to the above deductions. If two or more horses are withdrawn before coming under starter’s orders, the total deductions shall not exceed 0.9 for a Rs. 1.00. If further horses are withdrawn after a new market has been formed, bets placed at show prices prior to a new market being formed will be subject to a further deduction based on the prices of all withdrawn horses, Bets placed in the new market will be subject to a deduction based on the current price.

  1. If the result of a race is amended before the weigh-in when the official result is declared, win single/multiple bets and win part of each way single/multiple bets will be paid on both the official result and first past the post with the following exceptions: – The Grand National, ante post bets, forecast or tricast bets, void races, a selection taking the wrong course, a selection given as the winner in error by the judge, a selection carrying the wrong weight, a jockey failing to weigh-in, favorite points markets, distance markets, bets placed on a two runner race, special match bets, novelty bets, ‘Insurance’ markets ‘without the favorite’ markets,  ‘place only’ markets. (not applicable for races that offer Pari-Mutual dividends).
  2. If a horse is doubly engaged, meaning it is entered for two or more races on the same day, win and each way bets placed on that horse ( if correct times of the races are instructed) stand for the race  which actually runs. Win and each way bets placed on that horse (if correct times of the races are instructed) in which it does not run will be void.
  3. If two horses have identical names, placed bets must differentiate between each by stating a race time and meeting. Bets accepted that do not differentiate by stating a race time and meeting, bet will consider for the race that run first after the bet was struck. 
  4. If a race is abandoned, declared void or has only one runner (also known as a walkover), bets placed on horses in that race will be void. If a race is postponed to another day and the final declarations for that race do not stand, meaning the race is open to new participants bets placed on that race will be void. If a race is postponed to another day, bets placed at ante post odds will stand. If a race is postponed to another day and the final declarations for that race stand, meaning the race is not opened to new participants bets placed on that race will stand provided the venue is not changed.
  5. Bets are settled to win unless each way is clearly stated and place only bets are not accepted for less than three horses and any taken in error will be settled as an E/W bet for instructed amount. Place term for any Place only bet for all fixed odds races would be as per the race type or number of runners.

If an insufficient number of horses finish the race to fulfill the advertised place terms, bets will be settled only on the horses that actually do finish the race. Bets placed on horses that do not finish the race will have lost. If the number of runners deemed to have participated in the race is reduced due to a horse/horses being withdrawn, each way bets will be settled on the revised place terms regardless of the time of bet placement. This means that an each way bet struck on a 16 runner handicap with 15 runners deemed to have participated will be settled on the first three places; an 8 runner race with 7 runners deemed to have participated will be settled on the first two places etc.

  1. In favorite betting. “The favorite” is the horse that is returned at the shortest SP, “the second favorite” is the horse that is returned at the second shortest SP. Bets are settled on the official result and Bets nominating the favorite are accepted at starting price only for fixed odds races only (not for Pari Mutual races). Each way or place only bets not accepted for “The favorite” and if taken in error, would be settled as a WIN. If two or more horses start as joint or co-favorites the stake will be divided equally across each other and dead heat rules apply. 
  2. In Forecast betting punter shall predict two horses to finish first and second in the correct order for a given race and are settled on the official result. Forecasts are accepted on horse races of three or more runners and in Pari Mutual betting, Exacta and Quinella would be accepted for runners according to each industry standards and if there is a dead heat for first or second place, a separate dividend will be declared for each winning forecast.

    For fixed odds races, bets will be settled on industry forecast dividends and in case a non-runner included in a forecast bet, bet would be settled as a single bet for the remaining selection. If both selections withdrawn from the race, bet shall be made void. In case if just one or two runner finishes the race, bets for this market will be settled as a win single for 1st nominated selection. If a non-runner included in a combination forecast, all bets will be treated as individual bets for the purpose of settlement and no bet will be refunded.

    For Pari Mutual races, bets will be settled on industry quinella, exacta dividends (for a selected industry standards for amount of runners) and in case a non-runner included on these bets, bets shall be made void. Where a forecast is accepted and only one runner finishes the race, and a forecast dividend is not declared, then if the selection in that forecast is the winner, it will be settled as a win single. If the selection in that forecast is not the winner, the bet is lost. 

  3. In Tricast /Trifecta betting punter shall predict three horses to finish first, second and third in the correct order for a given race and are settled on the official result. If there is a dead heat for first, second or third place, a separate dividend will be declared for each winning tricast. If one or more withdrawn horses reduce the number of runners in the given race to seven or fewer, bets placed this market will be settled as a forecast/exacta on the selections nominated to finish first and second.

    For fixed odds races, bets will be settled on industry tricast dividends and in case a non-runner included in a tricast bet, bet would be settled as a forecast and if two non-runners included, bets will be settled as a single bet for the remaining selection. If all selections withdrawn from the race, bet shall be made void. If In case if just one or two runner finishes the race, bets for this market will be settled as a win single for 1st nominated selection.

    Where a forecast is accepted and only one runner finishes the race, and a forecast dividend is not declared, then if the selection in that forecast is the winner, it will be settled as a win single. If the selection in that forecast is not the winner, the bet is lost.

    If a non-runner included in a combination Tricast/Trifecta, all bets will be treated as individual bets for the purpose of settlement and no bet will be refunded.

    For Pari Mutual races, bets will be settled on industry trifecta dividends (for a selected industry standards for amount of runners) and in case a non-runner included on these bets, bets shall be made void. In case no industry trifecta dividends offered, bets shall be made void. 

  4. In Pari Mutual races, horses from the same ownership is coupled only to win pool only (unless stated by the selected industry standards) and incase the nominated horse becomes a non-runner, stake will be refunded. 
  5. In the USA and South American races, two place pools are in operation, namely the “place pool” for 1st and 2nd only and the “show pool” for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Unless the “place pool” (1st, 2nd) is clearly specified, the place part of an each way bet in the USA will be settled on the “show pool” (1st, 2nd and 3rd) dividends.
